This Empowerment Self-Defense (ESD) workshop is a student-centered training designed to introduce youth to a variety of self-protective options in a discussion format. This workshop will help you to identify your risks, evaluate your strengths, and to explore your options for dealing with the threat of violence. Topics Include: Trusting and using your intuition; How bias affects your judgment; Establishing and setting boundaries; Assertive communication; The benefits and risks of various escape options; Physical Self-Defense Strikes and Escapes.
Classes are open to youth ages 11 through 18. Youth may attend alone or be accompanied by an adult. Snacks provided for all attendees.
This workshop is in conjunction with National Youth Violence Prevention Week and is presented in collaboration with The City of Portlandʻs Office of Violence Prevention, Safe Blocks Program and Rose City Self-Defense. PLEASE REGISTER SO WE NOW HOW MANY SNACKS TO GET!
